PROJECT OVERVIEW
Call Identifier: H2020-ENERGY-EE-2014/2015
Objective: EE 11 – 2014/2015- New ICT-based solutions for energy efficiency
Funding Schemes: Research & Innovation Actions
Evaluation Scheme: One stage
Closure Date: 05/06/2014

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The objective of the KILLBILL project is twofold: (i) to increase the end-users awareness on their own energy consumption and impact on the environment; (ii) to motivate and support their behavioral change in order to contribute to a novel concept of energy efficiency buildings.

The new proposed approach is based on increasing users’ motivation towards a coordinated power utilization, where all users of particular building, possibly extending to block of buildings or city districts, are involved in a collaborative effort.

This solution leads to define a new concept of energy-aware buildings (including administrative offices, social housing) based on the metaphor of a community of living organisms each pursuing greater environmental sustainability by learning best practices and adapting their behavior accordingly. Mapping this metaphor within a serious game environment will give a representation of the above described ecosystem to the aim of providing an engaging, self-reinforcing context in which to motivate, educate and train the players.

KILLBILL activities may be clustered into three main threads:

  • Users and stakeholders thread – Activities carried out in conjunction with final users and other key stakeholders. These activities include User Requirements Analysis (both at early stage of the project and during intermediate deployment), operational activities at the pilot sites, and evaluation activities.
  • Research and Innovation thread – Activities related to scientific research, technical development, technical dry-run and testing, solution deployment, prototyping. The project will deploy the full-fledged tool (both for mobile and fixed platforms) in the sites chosen to host the pilots, providing the members of the addressed communities with the necessary hardware and software equipment that will allow them to monitor and control their energy usage in real time, and to take the relevant actions to reduce and optimise energy consumption.
  • Dissemination & Exploitation thread – Dissemination activities, Business scenario definition, socio economic analysis, business model and legal framework, exploitation strategy of project results.
